As I sit her, scouring the internet for clues on how to build this boat, a few things strike me. It's a wide open field. Yes the plans for the Harley 8 are very detailed and straight forward but what if I want to do something different? No one is saying I can't. For instance I'm thinking of building the boat with a jig as opposed to true stitch and glue. I'll still use the fore and aft rig for the mainsail but I think I need to add a jib. Not only does it look better but it will provide more sail area. And I may enclose the boat a bit more. It's amazing how many different considerations are undertaken when deciding to build one's own boat. I think the Dauntless will be both the same and different from many of the other first boats out there. Here's hoping for a good winter.
